Specializing in Couples Therapy
From Amy
As a couples therapist, I see myself as incredibly blessed and privileged every time a couple entrusts their relationship with me when they are at their most vulnerable place.
I believe healthy relationships are at the foundation of our happiness. Working with hurting couples has been a passion of mine for over two decades. I’ve continued to strive to learn the best methods to help the couples that look to me for help in healing including certifications in the two leading methods for working with couples, Gottman Method Couples Therapy as well as Relational Life Therapy.
As a therapist, I not only believe in research, I insist on being a participant myself in these methods. I want to experience personally what I am asking my clients to do for their own success. Something I’ve found in my own work and my work with couples is that our past traumas or negative beliefs often get in the way of having satisfying relationships. It’s not our fault that difficult things in our lives affected us and brought about potentially damaging coping skills, but it is our responsibility to become aware of them and be open to more healthy behaviors that allow us to be our best in our relationships both with ourselves and others.
my Practice model
I have ultimate respect for my mentor Terry Real who states:
“Family Dysfunction rolls down from generation to generation like a fire in the woods, taking down everything in its path until one person in one generation has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to their ancestors and spare the children that follow.”
I model my practice around this quote. I am a fellow traveler who works with couples to see the patterns they have in their relationship that are getting in the way, to understand where they come from, to appreciate that they served a purpose, to let them go if they are unhealthy and to learn new ways to be in relationship with ourselves and others. When this happens, I believe the sky is the limit. Relationships get taken to new levels and respect, fondness, appreciation, connection and true intimacy grow.
Your healing Guide
Often I see couples get stuck and one or the other is struggling to move forward even with the researched methods designed to help them in their relationships. If this happens, I will often ask a client to do individual work using trusted and research therapy methods such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and/or Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP).
I am not only trained in both methods but have also utilized them both for my own growth and happiness. Couples may choose to do KAP individually or together. I believe Ketamine Assisted Therapy opens the doors to potentials once blocked. It helps us see underneath the layer of trauma, to the truth and knowing we need to access in order to move forward in a healthier and happier way.
In your Ketamine Assisted Therapy, I see myself as a guide, helping you to discover what past messages are holding you back and what intentions you would like to have for your KAP journey. Once you have completed each KAP treatment I will help guide you through integrating your experience into the amazing new ways you can transform your life. We all have a gut or an instinct that helps us understand our truth and knowing. I hope to help guide you to find it.
